Final Year Project

Project Title

Cracking (up) Queer Comedy in Pakistan

Description

Grounded in the landscape of Pakistan, my capstone identifies live comedy as a platform where Pakistani female and queer comedians have navigated their way around a conservative society through comedy. The purpose of my paper is to identify how comedy is often used as a medium to voice the struggles of the marginalized communities, in turn, providing them a platform to highlight themes of social justice through the comic element. This paper helped in understanding the different content and experiences of comedians in Pakistan and how they adopt the tools of social change and justice within their comedy to reach out to the masses and be more relevant.
